Collaboration
Collaboration between parents and professionals is key to supporting a child’s development. Open communication ensures that strategies are consistent across different settings (home, school, therapy). Parents are the experts on their child’s needs, while professionals offer valuable expertise in development and support.
How Parents and Professionals Can Work Together:
Share information: Whether at home or in school, sharing information about the child’s behaviour helps professionals and parents provide better care. Home / School communication diary’s, good news journals and regular meetings are some ways to support sharing information.
Attend meetings: Participating in reviews, therapy sessions, and school meetings ensures that all support plans are aligned.
Respect expertise: While professionals provide clinical or educational expertise, they also rely on parents for in-depth knowledge of the child. Good partnerships rely on all parties respecting and valuing each others knowledge and experience.
